4 Nominees for 2012 Kora Music Awards



Four Kenyan artistes and a Hip-Hop group has been nominated for the 12th edition of Kora Music Awards (Africa’s Grammys) that will take place Ivory Coast’s capital of Abidjan on 29th December.

Founded in 1994 by a Benin businessman Ernest Adjovi, Kora Award is a Pan-African Music Award that recognizes the best artistes of Africa and those in Diaspora.

The four who include singer Marya, Ragga artiste Redsan, gospel artiste Jimmy Gait and DK as well as the internationally acclaimed Camp Mulla have received nominations in the ‘Best Female Artiste East Africa’, ‘Best Male East Africa’, and ‘Best African Group’ category.

Here is list of nominees where Kenyan Acts have been nominated;

Best Male East Africa
Kidum ft. Sana – ‘Mulika Mwizi’ (Burundi)
Jimmy Gait ft. Dk – ‘Furi Furi Dance’ (Kenya)
Redsan – ‘Ila Wewe’ (Kenya)
Ali Kiba ft. Lady Jay Dee – Single Boy (Tanzania)
Mulatu Astatke – ‘Ethiopia’ (Ethiopia)
Chris D – ‘Aisha’ (Burundi)

Best Female East Africa
Saida Karoli – ‘Sakina’ (Tanzania)
Juliana Kanyomozi – ‘I am Ugandan’ (Uganda)
Marya  - ‘Sishiki Simu’ (Kenya)
Helen Berhe – ‘Lebe’ (Ethiopia)
Ikraan Caraale – ‘Gaarsiiya’ (Somalia)
Asther Aweke – ‘Lu Mili’ (Ethiopia)

Best African Group
Magic System – ‘La Danse Des Magician’ (Ivory Coast)
X-Maleya – ‘Tchokolo’ (Cameroon)
Camp Mulla – ‘Party Don’t Stop’ (Kenya)
Toofan – ‘C Magik’ (Togo)
Malaika – ‘Never Change My Mind’ (Sudan)
Gal Level – ‘Ohole’ (Namibia)
Kenya’s Sana is nominated alongside Burundi’s Kidum.

American rapper and songwriter Chris Brown is among the star-studded lineup expected at the gala ceremony.
