Nairobi to host world accountants’ conference

Nairobi will for the first time host at least 36 members of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) global governing council from June 21-23.
The biannual meeting themed ‘Accountants for Business in Africa – Supporting Growth, shaping the future’, will discuss economic growth, business opportunities, and challenges for the accountancy profession in Africa.
The global profession accounting body conducts regular meetings for its Governing Council and previous ones have been held in Central and Eastern Europe and South East Asia.
The Chief Executive Officer of ACCA, Helen Brand said the decision to hold the Inaugural Africa Meeting in Nairobi was guided by Kenya being a central economic hub in Sub-Saharan Africa.
ACCA supports 154,000 members and 432,000 students in 170 countries in the world with a global rise in membership of 4.8 per cent or 7,000 while over 70,000 new students started the quest for the certification.
The event would also see the induction of new members.
