Kenya may become the first African state to have a Climate Authority

The authority will address issues on adapting to global warming and those on cutting greenhouse gas emissions in the country. The push is by Dr. Wilbur Ottichilo, an environmental scientist and the M.P of Emuhaya. The M.P has drafted a bill to establish an independent Climate Change Authority and is confident that the bill will get a lot of support from fellow M.Ps.

It’s expected that reporting of energy and carbon emissions by both public and private entities will be through a national registry which also be tasked with ensuring reduction of hazardous discharge in the country.

The only other African state that has made effort to start such an authority is Nigeria, which is a bill awaiting the president’s assent.
