The United Nations Seed Award Winners 2011 with focus
on African entrepreneurs was awarded to the Watamu Community Solid Waste
Management and Recycling Enterprises for its achievement in innovation
and entrepreneurial skills in the community at a ceremony that was held
in South Africa last month.
Since 2009, the local conservation group in cooperation
with the marine tourism industry has been engaged in beach cleaning
and recycling of collected plastic wastes to create a pollution free
environment.
