Airtel has unveiled its Pan-African soccer tournament
dubbed, ‘Airtel Rising Stars Africa Soccer Championship’ that will held in
Nairobi from August 20th to 25th.
The tournament, which is part of its ongoing Airtel Rising
Stars Programme, will offer a platform for talented youngsters from the
continent to showcase their prowess.
The championships will kick off with qualifying rounds,
knockout rounds and a final in which winners will receive a wild card
invitation to top-flight English sides Manchester United and Arsenal soccer
clinics. Draws are set for Wednesday to determine the group stage fixtures.
Nairobi is expecting over 500 boys and girls from African
powerhouses in the under-17 category, that include Ghana, Zambia, Nigeria, DRC
(Congo) playing against upcoming countries such as Malawi, Gabon, Kenya, Burkina
Faso amongst others.
Prime Minister Raila Odinga will officially open the
Championship alongside attending ambassadors from the other 14 participating
nations.
A music extravaganza will follow the final matches with
Africa’s best artistes; Congolese Papa Wemba, Tanzania’s Rapper AY, Kenya’s
Daddy Owen and Nigeria’s 2face Idiba scheduled to perform.
The boys and girls finals will be broadcasted live on August
25th by partners Super Sports.
