Andiego run ends with a loss to Volnova

Kenya lone female boxer in the ongoing London Games Elizabeth Andiego lost to Kazakhstan’s Volnova Marina 11-20 in the women's boxing middleweight last 16 bout on Sunday evening.

The bout took place inside the Excel Centre’s Northern Wing where they competed in the 75kg category, Andiego losing all rounds except the fourth (6-3,5-3,6-2 and 3-3).

Volnova has now set a date with Marshall Savannah of USA in Mondays’ quarterfinals.

This was Kenya’s second loss in the boxing arena after Ben Gicharu earlier lost to Egypt’s Abdelaal Hesham 16-18 on Monday.

Focus now turns to tonight men’s 3000m steeplechase where Brimin Kipruto, Ezekiel Kemboi and Abel Mutai will be competing for a clean sweep.
