It was another disappointing night for Kenya and its three athletes
in the 1,500 men’s race on Tuesday, as they all failed to pick up a medal.
Commonwealth Champion Silas Kiplagat (3:36.19), 2011 Diamond League winner Nixon Chepseba (3:39.04), and defending champion Asbel
Kiprop (3:43.83) finished 7th, 11th , and 12th respectively
in one of the worst performances in Kenya’s history.
A resilient Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria bounced back from
Monday’s disqualification fiasco in the 800m to win gold in a time of 3:34.08. He
was followed by American Leonel Manzano (3:34.79) and Abdalaati Iguider of
Morroco who claimed bronze at 3:35.13.
Focus turns to the men’s 5,000m race on Wednesday, where
Edwin Soi, Isaiah Kiplagat and Thomas Longosiwa will be pursuing more medals.
