Nairobi will play host to COMESA’s first ever Tourism Forum
from 22nd to 24th August. The 3-day meeting, themed “Shaping
the Future of Tourism in the COMESA Region” will bring together the private
sector, policy makers, and government representatives in the trading bloc.
The forum will also benefit from the participation of decision
makers from the United Nations World Tourism Organization, The European Union, World
Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), UNCTAD, SADC, EAC, IGAD, and the OECD.
The main objective of the Nairobi Forum have been stated as
follows:
I.
Discuss and develop a sustainable tourism
development programme
II.
Bring together private and public sector
stakeholders to define the means of shaping the future of the sector
III.
Formulate regional programmes on tourism,
including the movement of tourists and partnerships between member states
