Kenya Ranks 106th in the Global Competitiveness Report

Kenya is ranked 106 out of 144 countries in the recently released 2012-2013 Global Competitiveness Report (GCP), an assessment made by the World Economic Forum.

Kenya dropped from position 102 in the 2011-2012 rankings with a score of 3.7 (out of a scale of 1-7) compared to the previous 3.8 score.

This year’s report assesses the competitiveness landscape of 144 economies, offering insight into the drivers of their productivity and prosperity. The Report series remains the most comprehensive assessment of national competitiveness worldwide.    

Africa’s biggest economy South Africa is ranked 52^nd to take the honors of most competitive country in the continent while the likes of Mauritius, Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon come in 54^th ,115^th , 103^rd and 112^th respectively.  

The world’s second largest economy China experienced a decline in the rankings, falling from 26^th to position 29. Many are keen on how China will handle its own structural transition from investment mode to consumption mode.  

Switzerland remains at the top for the fourth consecutive year; followed by Singapore, Finland, and Sweden.
