Turbi – Moyale Road Upgrade launched

The construction of the 15 billion-shilling Turbi – Moyale Road, was on Wednesday launched by President Mwai Kibaki in Moyale County.  

The 122km road, which is the last section of the Trans-Africa Highway Corridor (section passing through Kenya), will be upgraded to bitumen standards by the government with the support of the African Development Bank.

The Trans-Africa Highway Corridor starts at Cape Town (South Africa) to Cairo (Egypt)  and passes through Kenya starting at Namanga (Bordering Tanzania), via Nairobi, Isiolo, Marsabit and ends at Moyale (near the border with Ethiopia).   

The project will also come with the building of police stations, rehabilitation of bridges, sinking of boreholes, provision of facilities for travelers to be located in three areas and other roadside amenities, the President said.

The link between Ethiopia and Kenya will promote trade and regional integration between the two nations as well as opening up of Northern Kenya, he added.
