The Brewers beat Nairobi City Stars 3-0 to defend the Tusker Premier League title and finish with 60 points ahead of fierce rivals Gor Mahia (59 pts) and AFC Leopards (57pts), in one of the most contested league season in KPL history.
Tusker FC, which is the third most successful club in the
country with 10 league titles, cruised over City Stars at the Hope Centre Kawangware on Saturday afternoon with strikes from Maurice Odipo, Obadiah Ndege in the first half and Fredrick Onyango's in the second half to lift the prestigious title.
AFC Leopards stunned by Chemilil Sugar
Koop's boys went to Awendo Green Stadium with the goal of beating Chemilil Sugar and hope that Tusker and Gor lost in their subsequent matches. However, Chemelil stunned the title contenders with a 1-0 win at home turf.
The Miller's goal came courtesy of a 73rd minute strike from Andrew Isemeki.
Sofapaka's Baraza bags Golden Boot
Sofapaka's striker John Baraza beat Dan Sserunkuma of Gor Mahia to clinch the League's Golden Boot with 18 goals against Sserunkuma's 17 goals.
Sofapaka who were playing against Karuturi Sports at the Thika Municipal Stadium, had Baraza to thank for a goal in the deserved 2-1 win. The goal increased his tally to 18 with fellow contender Sserunkuma not scoring in the 1-1 thriller at the City Stadium, he finished the TPL top scorer.
Tusker will now represent Kenya at the CAF Champions League scheduled for next year.
Thika United Dashes Gor’s 17 year Dream
Thika United held Gor Mahia to a 1-1 draw in a hotly
contested match played at the City Stadium. The Green Berets backed by
thousands of Fans were anticipating a league win in 17 years. However, a decisive
goal from Thika’s Kennedy Otieno in the 37th minute changed the landscape
of the game, leaving Thika to defend the lead until the end of the first half.
Gor returned to the second half with much gusto and were
rewarded when Rama Salim equalized with a powerful header at the 77th
mark. The combination of Sserunkuma and
Salim continued upfront but couldn’t surpass the resilience of Thika and the
whistle at the 95th minute ensured Tusker were the 2012 TPL Champions.
