Kenyan wins award for bird conservation


A former employee of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), David Ngala received the 2012 Conservation Hero Award from US-based Disney Worldwide Conservation  for protection of rare bird species in Arabuko-Sokoke Forest near Malindi.

The award is given annually to individuals for their efforts to save wildlife, protect habitat and educate the people around them about the importance of environmental conservation.

Mr. Ngala, who was among six people honored from six countries and three continents, received a $1,000 cash award plus Ksh10,000 ($120) from the Imperial Bank.
