3000m steeplechase world champion Ezekiel Kemboi is alleged
of assaulting a businesswoman in Eldoret on Wednesday night. The woman, Ann
Njeri Otieno claims that the athlete stabbed her after a drinking spree with
him and later declining his advances.
Kemboi who also doubles as a police officer has denied the charges
saying that the woman was part of armed robbers that were pursuing him. He was charged at the Eldoret Law Court with the assault and released on bail of Sh50,000 bond and a cash bail of sh20,000. He will back to court in September 31.

Kemboi won Olympic gold in Athens in 2004 and the World
Championships in Berlin and Daegu in 2009 and 2011. The all-dancing champion
was set to represent the country in the upcoming London Games, which gets
underway on July 27.
