Very sad indeed. I was to meet him that morning for a feature article on music but when i dropped by his office i was told he was unwell, only to learn the sad news the following day on Standard on Saturday. I am gathering some information about him to dedicate an article on him. RIP Prof Okumu.

  15. To God be the glory for the invaluable role you played in the lives of thousands of people whom you interacted with. You have left a great impression on individuals, institutions, our beloved country Kenya, our vast continent Africa and the entire world. You were a friend to all - the meek and the mighty. You were and posthumously will remain, one of my greatest inspirations, one of my greatest friends.

I thank God for your life.May He rest your soul in eternal peace. AMEN.

  25. Mr Okumu, as we called him, was my Primary School Teacher in Langata West Primary School, Langata. It was here under Heads Mrs Wamwangi & Mrs Lang'at that he then leaped to Siriba Teachers College for his Diploma.

He led us to National Festivals alongside Mrs Mariaria. His demand for discipline, order and determination from all who were in the choir excited many of us who he moulded in those formative years.

In later years, his physical build never wore away and remained the mentall sharp, physically well built Mwalimu. He had a rare self confidence and a huge postive mental attitude that successfully led him down the road less travelled.

He once said to his Counsellor: Life begins after Ph.D.

    Your legacy lives on Mwalimu.
