Kenya to be Intel's regional hub

Intel Corporation has made Kenya the regional hub for its operations in East Africa and announced key appointments such as that of a regional head and senior managers over the last few months.

While speaking at a media workshop held in a Nairobi hotel Thursday morning, Intel GM for the East Africa Danie Steyn said, the company views the East African countries and other developing economies, as the key markets with potential growth opportunities in computing for the next few years.      

“The three largest and fastest growing market segments in emerging markets are corporate IT, consumer, and governments. In corporate IT we expect that IT budgets are set to increase as companies look for ways to maximize their IT spend for productivity and expansion,” he added.

Intel has trained 10,000 teachers in the country in collaboration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and others, as well as initiated together with the Ministry of ICT and the Kenya ICT Board (KICTB) the successful deployment of Wezesha, the student ownership program through which 16,000 Kenyan students purchased laptop in 2011.
