Long-distance runner Peter Cheruiyot Kirui has won the 43rd
edition of the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. The 24-year-old finished in
27:36 the fourth-fastest time in the race’s history.
The defending Champion Sammy Kitwara finished eighth while Ethiopia’s
Mamitu Daska won the women’s division at time of 32:21.
The road race had more than 57,000 runners participating as
the United States celebrated its Independence Day.
In other athletics news: Commonwealth champion Mark Mutai and
Anderson Mureta have been left out of the London team over officials claim of
poor form. The two had been part of the 4X400m relay squad at Daegu.
World Youth silver medalist Alphas Kishoiyan, Boniface
Mweresa and newly crowned African 400m Hurdles bronze winner Benson Mucheru
will now take their place, according to Team Kenya CEO Stephen Soi.
They will join Vincent Mumo, Vincent Koskei and Team captain
David Rudisha in the 4X400m relay team. The 800m world champion and record holder David Rudisha will be in action on Friday in the Paris Diamond
League with compatriots.
