Vivian Cheruiyot wins in London



Double World Champion Vivian Cheruiyot won the women’s 5000m with ease at the Samsung Diamond League held in London on Friday. She clocked 14:48.86 to retain her unbeaten run over the 5000m since August 13, 2010.
Vivian was closely followed by compatriot Mercy Cherono and Linet Masai who clocked 14:49.26 and 14:53.93 respectively for the podium sweep.

In the men’s 5000m, Great Britain’s Mo Farah emerged victorious in a time of 13:06.04. He was followed by Australia’s Collis Birmingham who posted a personal best of 13:09.57 ahead of Uganda’s Kipsiro Moses (13:09.98) while Kenya’s Kiptoo Mark Kosgei managed fourth place in 13:13.77.

Alphas Kishoiyan qualified for the men’s 400m final after registering time of 46.49.

In the women’s 5000m, Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon won her heat in 4:10.17 to qualify for Sunday’s finals. Nancy Chepkwemoi also qualified after finishing in 4:13’43.

In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Gilbert Kirui and Conselus Kipruto qualified with ease to emphasize Kenya’s dominance in men’s steeplechase.

In football: AFC Leopards move to the top of the Kenya Premier league (KPL) standings after beating City Stars 1 -0 at the Nyayo Stadium on Friday evening.
Mike Barasa scored the only goal of the match from the spot after 23 minutes of play.

In rugby: Kenya’s 15s team will play its do-or-die match against host Tunisia on Saturday in the Confederation African Rugby in Tunis.
The team had a setback in its opening match as it lost to rivals Uganda however; the team is still in contention to qualify for the Rugby World Cup to be held in England in 2015.
