Great Britain’s Mo Farah dominated to the finish to bag gold
in a thrilling 10,000m final on Saturday night. Three of the Kenyans in the
race Wilson Kiprop, Bedan Muchiri Karoki and Moses Masai could not keep up with
the trio of Farah, Rupp and Bekele.
The Somali-born Farah posted a time of 27:30.42 ahead of
American Galen Rupp who came second in 27:30.90. Ethiopia’s Tariku Bekele
finished in 27:31.43 picking up bronze.
After 18 minutes, Wilson Kiprop pulled out of the race with an
injury while compatriot Karoki and Masai finished fifth (27:92.34) and twelfth (27:41.34)
respectively.
The 10,000m medal has evaded Kenya for 44 years, having been
last won in 1968 by Naftali Temu in the Mexico Games.
Kenya now is at 39th position with two medals won
yesterday by Sally Kipyego and Vivian Cheruiyot.
