Kenyan accelerator 88mph partners with Google


Nairobi-based tech accelerator 88mph has struck a partnership deal with tech giant Google in a move geared to promoting a conducive startup ecosystem in the continent.  
Pledging to ‘fill the gaps of the nascent startup ecosystem in Africa’, the two will offer operational and knowledge resources to techpreneurs that includes mentoring, legal and IP advice, and technical workshops aimed at placing startups in the competitive business map.   
The partnership sees Johanna Kollar of Google’s Startup Support Programs and Head of Campus London Ezequiel Vidra join the 88mph advisory board.
88mph has invested in a total of 7 startups, which include Ghafla !, PesaTalk, Tusqee, 6ix Degrees, Hivi Sasa and Drugs.co.ke. Before the end of the year, the accelerator is intending to invest more than US$200,000 in startups. The firm is also planning to broaden its continental reach with West Africa in its 2013 opening calendar.
