Asbel Kiprop, Silas Kplagat and Nixon Chepseba qualified for
Sunday’s Semi finals of the men’s 1500m in their respective heats in the Olympic
Stadium on Friday night.
In heat 1, Olympic champion Asbel Kiprop came third in
3:36.59 behind Algeria’s Makhloufi Taoufik who clocked a time of 3:35.15. Second
place went to Ethiopia’s Gebremedhin Mekonnen in 3:36.56.
In heat 2, World Silver medalist Silas Kiplagat came fourth
in a time of 3:39.79. Mohammed Shaween of Saudi Arabia completed first in
3:39.42.
In heat 3, Nixon Kiplimo Chepseba stumbled in the last 200m
and failed to qualify after finishing 10th out of the 6 permitted qualifiers,
however hours later he appealed and was successfully reinstated to the semis.
