Embraer to Open Office in Kenya

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has announced its intention to open an office in Nairobi in early 2013, targeting the growing demand of jets and turboprob aircraft in the African market.

The sales and maintenance support centre will be operated with the partnership of Kenya Airways, who received another E190 jet on Thursday in Embraer’s 900th delivery.

Embraer’s Commercial Aviation President Paulo Cesar Silva said that Africa had huge potential and it was aligning itself with the development of Africa’s aviation, particularly intra-Africa air traffic.

Under Project Mawingu, KQ’s 10-year strategic plan, the national carrier plans to increase its order for Embraers (currently 16) to 31 E190 jets with 96 seats and 3 E170 with 72 seats.

Embraer and the likes of Bombardier are taking up decisive strategies in the African aircraft market currently dominated by Boeing and Airbus.
