IEBC Releases Report on Registered Voters

According to the recently released report by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), 14.3 million eligible Kenyans were registered as voters in the exercise that took place from Monday, November 19 to Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

IEBC managed to register 14,337,399 Kenyans, representing 79.7 percent of the initial projected target of 18 million voters. 


Here are a few statistics from the electoral body that is mandated to conduct the 2013 General elections:

The top five counties in voter turnout:
  1. Nairobi (121.6%) 
  2. Kiambu (113.7%)
  3. Nyeri (110.4%)
  4. Lamu (109.5%)
  5. Kirinyaga (106.7%)
The bottom five counties in voter turnout:
  1. Mandera (25.3%)
  2. Turkana (30.2%)
  3. Wajir (35.7%) 
  4. Garissa (40%)
  5. West Pokot (45.1%)

IEBC Looking for 47 County Campaign Monitor 

IEBC is looking for campaign specialists to monitor political parties' internal nominations in the 47 counties.

Duties and Responsibilities 
The incumbent will be administratively answerable to the IEBC Regional Elections Coordinator (REC) and his/her duties will include:-
  • Monitoring existence of political parties’ offices and relevant records at the county level;
  • Coordinating sensitization of political parties at the county level;
  • Monitoring engagement of political parties in illegal activities including violence and bribery during campaigns;
  • Monitoring political parties’ internal nominations;
  • Coordinating training of political parties’ candidates and agents;
  • Monitoring compliance with the Political Parties Code of Conduct;
  • Monitoring compliance with provisions of the Political Parties Act;
  • Ensuring that no public officer is an official of a political party;
  • Monitoring use of public resources by political parties during campaigns.
Qualifications
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university and at least three (3) years working experience;
  • Be Kenyan citizen;
  • Be competent in report writing and analytical skills
  • Previous experience in electoral and political parties reforms will be an added advantage;
  • Be ready and willing to work anywhere in Kenya
CCM will be contracted:
For a duration of three (3) months;
For a wage of Shs 3,000 per day, all inclusive;
No other benefits or allowances will be paid during the contract period
