Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, Kenya’s 4th President



Jubilee Coalition presidential candidate Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta has been elected Kenya’s fourth president after defeating Raila Amollo Odinga of CORD Coalition in a hotly contested general election.

According to official results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Kenyatta had won 50.07 percent of the vote to surpass the 50 percent plus one constitutional requirement mark in order to avoid a runoff.

The 51-year-old outgoing deputy prime minister garnered 6,173,433 votes out of a total of 12,338 million votes while CORD’s Raila garnered 5,340,546.  

The Commission pronounced Uhuru the President of the Republic of Kenya today afternoon.  

Uhuru’s Timeline

October 26th, 1991 Born in Samburu County to the founding President of the Republic of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and Mama Ngina Kenyatta. Named Uhuru in anticipation of Kenya’s upcoming independence.
He attended St. Mary’s School in Nairobi
He played as a winger for the St. Mary’s Nairobi Rugby Team
August 22, 1978 Young Uhuru loses his father aged 89 years
1989 Uhuru starts his first company, Wilham Kenya Limited
1979-1980 Works as a teller at the Kenya Commercial Bank, Kipande House Branch
Undergraduate studies at Amherst, Massachusetts United States of America.  He holds a B.A in Economics and Political Science.
1989 Marries his sweetheart and best friend Margret Wanjiru Gakuo
1991 He joins active politics
1992 he campaigns for Kenneth Matiba
1994 He sells Wilham Kenya Limited
1997 He runs for the Gatundu South Parliamentary Seat but loses to Architect Moses Muhia
1999 He was appointed chairman of the Kenya Tourism Board
2001 Nominated Member of Parliament by KANU
2002 Runs for the presidency on a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket but lost to NARC’s Mwai Kibaki
           Elected Member of Parliament for Gatundu South Constituency
2002 – 2007 Official Leader of the Opposition party  (KANU) in Kenya
2005 He becomes the Chairman of KANU after defeating Nicholas Biwott
2005 Leads KANU against the 2005 Constitutional Referendum
2007 Supported Mwai Kibaki’s presidential bid
2008 Deputy Prime Minister of Kenya and Minister for Local Government
2009 Named Minister for Finance by President Mwai Kibaki
2010 Named by ICC Prosecutor Moreno Ocampo as a suspect of crimes against humanity.
2012 May 20th Kenyatta attended the elaborately the launch of The National Alliance (Kenya) party in an ultra-modern dome at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre 
2012 Formed the Jubilee coalition with URPs William Samoei Ruto 
2013 March 9th Pronounced the Fourth President of the Republic of Kenya
2013 March 16th CORD launches petition at the Supreme Court of Kenya challenging the validity of Uhuru's win 
2013 March 30th The Supreme Court's unanimous decision upholds Uhuru Kenyatta's win  in the March 4th Presidential election.
2013 April 9th Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Samoei Ruto sworn in.  

Uhuru and Margret have three children namely, Jomo, Ngina and Jaba
