Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo is Dead

News just in, Newly-elected Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo has passed on at his Maanzoni Ranch in Machakos.

Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka announced the death of one of Kenya's greatest lawyers and debaters. The cause of death remains unknown with initial reports suggesting that he went to sleep and had not woken by 10 a.m.

Mutula Kilonzo's Profile 

Born on 2nd  July, 1948, Educated at Mbooni Primary School and Machakos High School before joining University of Dar es Salaam in 1969 graduating with a First Class Honors’ Degree in Law — the first in the East African region.

Mutula Kilonzo was a prolific Kenyan politician and Senior Counsel. He served as Minister of Education, Minister for Nairobi Metropolitan and Minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs in the former government.

He was the secretary general of the WIPER Party and was elected as Makueni County Senator after representing Mbooni Constituency for 5 years.

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have today unveiled twelve more cabinet secretaries nominees to bring the number to sixteen out of the eighteen who will make up the new cabinet.

Amb. Rachel Awuor Omamo, Ministry of Defence

Studied Law at the University of Kent at Canterbury in the UK.
Senior Counsel, has been an Advocate of the High Court of 27 years standing.

She was the First Woman Chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya
First woman Ambassador of Kenya to France, Portugal, The Holy See and the Republic of Serbia and Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Kenya to UNESCO.

Rayechelle has made substantial contribution to the advancement of the rule of law in Kenya and to the development of legislation and policy, for example:

Member of the Task Force on the Establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Kenya;

Member of the Task Force on the Review of Landlord and Tenant Legislation;
Assisting Counsel to the Ndungu Commission:

She was the Jurist of the Year 2002.

Adan Mohammed - Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development

Born December 1963 in Mandera.

Adan has worked for Barclays Bank for over 15 years in different parts of the world.  He has been the CEO of Barclays Kenya for a period of 10 years that has seen the Bank grow from strength to strength.  In recognition of his contribution, Barclays Group recently promoted him to the role of Chief Administrative Officer with responsibilities for 10 countries in Africa.

Prior to Barclays, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for a period of 7 years in London where he trained as a Chartered Accountant.

4 out of 18 Kenyan Cabinet Secretary Nominees

President Uhuru Kenyatta has named four of his 18 Cabinet Secretary nominees in a press conference held at State House, Tuesday.

The four include a respected World Bank consultant Dr Fred Matiang’i Okengo, seasoned diplomat Amina Mohammed, Economist Henry K Rotich and James Wainaina Macharia from the private sector.

Teacher's Rights Crusader David Okuta Osiany

David Okuta Osiany, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) secretary general  has died in Nairobi.

The vocal champion of teachers' right was pronounced dead on arrival at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Rongai after he developed breathing problems.

Acting Secretary General Xavier Nyamu has called on all KNUT branches countrywide to suspend all activities until his burial.

Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, Kenya’s 4th President



Jubilee Coalition presidential candidate Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta has been elected Kenya’s fourth president after defeating Raila Amollo Odinga of CORD Coalition in a hotly contested general election.

According to official results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Kenyatta had won 50.07 percent of the vote to surpass the 50 percent plus one constitutional requirement mark in order to avoid a runoff.

The 51-year-old outgoing deputy prime minister garnered 6,173,433 votes out of a total of 12,338 million votes while CORD’s Raila garnered 5,340,546.  

The Commission pronounced Uhuru the President of the Republic of Kenya today afternoon.

Samuel Kivuitu Passes On


Former Electoral Commission of Kenya Chairman Samuel Kivuitu passed away on Monday night while undergoing treatment at the MP Shah hospital in Nairobi.

The men who was at the helm of the electoral body during the 2007 election had recently declared he was cured from esophagus cancer.

The 74-year-old career lawyer had hoped to be a poll observer in the forthcoming March 4th general election.

Kenya's 2012 Top 40 Under 40 Men

Nation Media Group's Business Daily presented the annual 'Top 40 Under 40' awards on December 4th 2012. The awards ceremony which seeks to recognise and celebrate young Kenyan's achievements in the field of business, enterprise and professionalism were graced by Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.

Speaking at the unveiling of the list, Dr. Mutunga urged professionals to uphold integrity in their undertakings. 
"For persons in business, the case of the Enron Corporation is too well known. What tends to be forgotten is that the main problem was not the profitability of the business as such, but the lack of integrity among the decision-makers within it. In other words, it was the failure and/or refusal by the professionals within the organisation to do what they should have been doing." - Dr. Mutunga

Business Daily come up with this campaign five years ago, running the women's edition for four years before the men's version was finally unveiled in 2011.

RIP Music Maestro Arthur Mudogo Kemoli

Dr Arthur Mudogo Kemoli died on Sunday after a long battle with diabetes and renal disease. Many will remember Dr. Kemoli for his mastery in composing choral music with pieces such as ‘Fimbo ya Nyayo’ remaining golden.

Magugu and Sumbeiyweo pass on



Two great Kenyan personalities, Elijah K. Sumbeiyweo and Arthur Magugu have passed on.

Sumbeiyweo who was a former Presidential Escort Commander died on Saturday morning after a long battle with pancreas cancer.Elijah, a brother to retired Army commander and Sudan’s Chief peace mediator Lt General Lazarus Sumbeiywo.

East African Community Permanent Secretary David S.O Nalo passed away on Wednesday night at the Nairobi Hospital after battle with cancer. The PS was admitted at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for over a week.

The former Member of Parliament for Butere was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer at the Texas Cancer centre in Hurlingham, Nairobi.

Prof. Bethwell Allan Ogot EBS




Born in August 3, 1929 in Gem, Siaya County Dr. Bethwell Allan Ogot is a distinguished historian, scholar, mentor, and a diligent public servant. He’s renowned for numerous contributions to the research of Kenya and East Africa’s history as well as his work in Luo oral traditions.
Little known of him was his contribution to Kenya’s independence, where as a leader of the Kenya Students Association he assisted the late Oginga Odinga during the 1960 negotiations in London. He is the incumbent Chancellor of Moi University, Eldoret.

Dr. Charles Mulli Father to the Fatherless



Charles Mulli is the founder of Mully Children’s Family (MCF) mission that has helped more than 7,000 street children and orphans since its inception in 1989.

Mulli’s story is one of a street kid who rose from poverty and suffering to a millionaire and a father to street children, orphans and neglected children. In 1989, he shocked his family by choosing to give away his entire wealth and bringing three street children into their home.

Baroness Karen Blixen ‘Isak Dinesen’

Popularly known by her pseudonym Isak Dinesen, Karen Blixen was a Danish author famous for ‘Out Of Africa’, her account of living in Kenya. Karen was born on 17 April 1885 in Rungsted, Denmark. Blixen was known for writing in Danish and French but wrote in English, when living on a coffee farm in Kenya (1914 – 1931).

Born in June 23, 1961 Ian Duncan stands in the Crème de la crème of Kenya rally drivers. He held the Kenyan National Rally Champion a record six times (1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, 2000, & 2011). He also recorded a remarkable win in the 1994, 42nd Trustbank Safari Rally (World Rally Championship) driving Toyota Celica Turbo 4WD navigated by David Williamson.
