The 2012 Oslo Diamond League was marked with a historic women’s
steeple win as Milcah Chemos clocked her personal best of 9:07.14 to win her 8th
Diamond League title. The race recorded the fastest ever competitive Steeple
outside of the World Championships or Olympics with more than one woman (3) breaking
9:10.
Chemos performance at Norway is also fourth fastest in the
all time Steeple performaces, which is topped by Russia’s Gulnara Galkina time
of 8:58.81. She was followed closely with Ethiopian rivals Sofia Assefa and Hiwot
Ayalew who also recorded impressive time of 9:09.00 and 9:09.61 respectively.
World and Olympic 1500m champion, Asbel Kiprop won his third
Dream Mile in class, clocking 3:49.22. Compatriot Caleb Ndiku Mwangangi came
second in 3:50.00 while third place was reserved for Ethiopia’s Gebremedhin
Mekonnen who clocked 3:50.02.
In the Men’s 5000m, Ethiopia’s Dejen Gebremeskel took the
win, which was his first outdoor race of the year. The highlight of the race
was Olympics champion, Kenensia Bekele who finished a disappointing 5th.
