StarTimes' Pay TV services were officially launched in Nairobi on Tuesday
and will broadcast on the new CCK approved DVB –T2 (Digital Video Broadcast - Terrestrial 2) decoders. The Chinese company
is venturing in a Kenyan Pay TV Market, currently dominated by Multichoice's DSTV
and Wananchi Group's Zuku.
The company seeks to provide digital television services to
Kenyan viewers across the country at an affordable premium of as low as Ksh
499. The decoder goes for 2,999 with the Basic package (40+ channels) charging
a monthly fee of Ksh 499 while the Unique package (65+ channels) charges Ksh
1,999.
StarTimes won the bid of National DTV test project initiated
by the government and completed the construction of the DTV system in December 2009. StarTimes' services will be offered in a partnership with Pan African Network Group, Kenya's second national Digital TV licensee after state-owned Signet.
Apart from digital pay TV, the company also offers radio
& TV signal transmission, mobile TV, wireless Internet and building of
advertising TV.

startimes is a rip off
ReplyDeletei bought the dvb t decoder sometimes last year;was working great but now i cant receive any signal.I heard some rumours that star times will be swapping the old receivers with new dvb-t2 ones,is it true ?because am sranded with this one and cant watch anything.i think this was a rip of;the goverment adviced people to buy these yet were not sure they will keep the technology.
ReplyDeletei am experiencing similar problems and worse off is their poor customer care. am thinking going for DSTV, the better option though expensive
Deleteadmin if you are connected to this people tell them they will lose to Zuku if they can't solve these issues
ReplyDeletecustomer is always king
am thinking of buying one bt with these comments tht am seeing here above, hmmmm am a lil bit scared. advice z needed urgently
ReplyDeleteDSTV vs Zuku vs Startimes - go for Zuku is affordable and loaded i promise you
Deletecut the bad name calling Startimes is far much better than Zuku..
ReplyDeleteso am of you are paid to make Startimes look bad
can you connect your startimes decorder directly to crt or a tft monitor
ReplyDeletei think so, the only thing you need is a set-top box that comes with the decorder
ReplyDeleteamgoing to buy it for 2k and see if they are working if not am going after dstv period
ReplyDeletetheir holiday offer is tempting but the package has few channels
ReplyDeleteTo stop this DSTV exploitation. we need a consumer protection council like that in Nigeria
