Double world champion Vivian Cheruiyot got direct
qualification for the 5,000 and 10,000 metres in the London Games after winning
the national trials on Friday. Compatriot Joyce Chepkirui will join her in the
10,000 metres after finishing second in 32:26.71.
Eugene-based world silver medalist Sally Kipyego also made
to the squad by coming third in the trials that were held at the Moi
International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
However, it was disappointment to Berlin
2009 World Champion Linet Masai who dropped out of the race with four laps to
go.
The final team selection will be done on June 23rd where Athletics Kenya seeks to select the other part of the squad that will represent Kenya in the London Games which open on July 27.
