In Belgium, Pamela Jelimo dominated the Women’s 800m – IAAF Heusden
Zolder to win in a time of 1:56.7, making the fourth fastest 600m ever.
In the Men’s 800m, Abraham Rotich Kipchirchir was victorious
in 1:43.15 with compatriot Evans Kipkorir coming second in a time of 1:45.91.
In the Men’s 1500m, Linus Kiplagat emerged the winner in
3:36.60 followed by United States’ Heath Garrett in 3:36.65 while Vincent Mutai
finished third in 3:36.85.
In the Men’s 5000m, Kiprop Albert won in a time of 13:01.91
while fellow compatriots managed a 3-4-5 finish with Kenneth Kipkemoi coming
second in 13:03.37.
In France, Kenyan-born cyclist Chris Froome claimed his
maiden Tour de France stage victory on Saturday.
Froome who is part of Team Sky was runner-up at last year’s Tour
of Spain. His finish means he has now moved up the race’s general
classification to ninth overall at 1min 32sec behind teammate Bradley. Though Britain’s
Bradley Wiggins finished third, he claimed the overall lead.
Froome left Kenya for South Africa to follow his dream of
becoming a cyclist before eventually making his to the European peloton.
