On Friday, the final leg of the Samsung Diamond league at the Herculis meeting in Monaco, France was marked in style with Kenyans maintaining their impressive
track performance at the meetings.
In the men’s 800m, Abraham Kipchirchir Rotich emerged
victorious in a time of 1:43.13 ahead of compatriot Leonard Kirwa Kosencha who
came in 1:43.40. Third place went to USA’s Duane Solomon who finished in
1:43.44.
In the men’s 1500m, Asbel Kiprop won in a world leading time
of 3:28.88 followed closely by fellow countryman Nixon Kiplomo Chepseba who
finished in 3:29.77. New Zealand’s Nicholas Willis finished third in 3:30.35.
In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, Conseslus Kipruto was
victorious in a time of 8:03.49 ahead of compatriot Paul Kipsiele Koech who
came second in 8:03.90. USA’s Evan Jager ruined Kenya’s clean sweep after
beating Bernard Mbugua Nganga to finish third in 8:06.81.
In the women’s 3000m, Mercy Cherono led compatriot Sylvia
Jebiwott Kibet to a 1-2 win with times of 8:38.51 and 8:39.14 respectively.
Ethiopia’s Buze Diriba came close third in 8:39.83.
