Biwott and Wangari win Beach to Beacon

Stanley Biwott and Margaret Wangari Muriuki emerged the winners of the 15th annual Beach to Beacon 10K Road Race Saturday morning in Cape Elizabeth, United States. Kenyan runners in both the men’s and women’s division dominated the race, fielding clean sweeps in both.
26-year old Biwott won the race in a time of 27:59 ahead of compatriot and training partner Stephen Kipkosgei-Kibet who came in a close 27:61.6. Silas Kipruto came third to complete the Kenyan clean sweep.
Wangari - Muriuki finishes


Margaret Wangari-Muriuki won the women’s division in 31:51.6, leading compatriot Emily Chebet (31:52.2) and Lineth Chepkurui (31:54) in a 1-2-3 finish. The 2006 Boston Marathon Champion Rita Jeptoo came in fourth posting a time of 31:58.
Kenya proved their dominance in the event with 9 of the top 10 men hailing from Kenya.
The two-debutant winners Biwott and Wangari were each rewarded with cash prize of $10,000.   
Beach to Beacon road race was founded by American Mainer and the 1984 Olympics marathon gold medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson.
