Kenya Harlequins have been crowned the new champions of the 2012
Christies Rugby 7’s after beating defending circuits champions Mwamba RFC in
the main cup finals played at the RFUEA
grounds, Ngong Road on Sunday.
Quins beat Mwamba 31-12 to win a thrilling final that
started with Mwamba’s Collins Injera making a try before an emphatic response
from Patrice Agunda. Former Mean Machine stalwart Wilson ‘Kopo’ Kopondo’s try
sealed the victory for Quins. In the Main Cup Semis, Quins beat Strathmore 27-0
while fellow finalist Mwamba RFC beat KCB 12-0, progressing to the anticipated
showdown.
The Plate went to
Homeboys after beating a resilient Kisumu 19-12 in the plate finals. In the
Semis, Homeboys beat Nondies 21-7 while Kisumu beat Nakuru 17.
Western Bulls clinched the Bowl after beating Blakblad 19-12 in the bowl finals. In the Semis,
Western Bulls beat Mean Machine 14-5 while Blakblad beat Eldoret 19-12.
Catholic University also walked away with the Shield, beating KCA 7-5 in the shield
finals. In the Semis, Catholic University beat Bungoma 26-7 while KCA beat
Multimedia 7-5.
The national sevens circuit moves to the Lakeside city of Kisumu
for the Dala Sevens slated for August 18-19 at the Kisumu
Polytechnic.
