The ninth edition of the UAP Ndakaini Marathon will take
place on the 15th September of this year. The half-marathon was
announced by UAP insurance’s head of marketing, Joseph Kamiri at a press
briefing held at its Nairobi headquarters on Friday.
Olympic marathon silver medalist and World record holder Abel
Kirui was unveiled as the new ambassador taking over from the late Samuel
Wanjiru.
The race will attract the likes of Berlin marathon champion
Patrick Makau, Nairobi marathon champion Ernest Kebenei and the defending
champion Dennis Kipruto.
Over 5,000 athletes are expected to participate in the main
21km race with other categories such as 10km, 5km, 3km and schools relay races scheduled
for the day.
Athletes intending to participate in the event should register
before September 9th. Charges are as follows; individuals – Sh500,
schools – Sh2000 and corporate – Sh50,000.
Registration is currently taking place at all UAP branches
across the country, selected branches of Uchumi Supermarkets, athletics camps,
Kass FM offices and through the online portal www.uapkenya.com
.
Winners in both the men and women’s 21km will receive cash
rewards of Sh150000 each while those in the 10km will walk away with Sh15000
each.
