Stanley Biwott and compatriot Sharon Cherop were on Sunday
crowned the winners of the 35th edition of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia
Half Marathon.
The 26-year-old who recently won the 2012 Paris Marathon was
debuting in the Philly half marathon and didn’t fail to impress, winning in a time
of one hour three seconds.
Fellow compatriot Paul Lonyongata followed him clocking a
time of 1:00.43 while third place went to United States’ Dathan Ritzenhein (1:00.57).
Cherop on the other hand was going into the race a proud
2012 Boston Marathon champion; she reigned over her rival Mare Dibaba from Ethiopia,
winning in 1:07.21.
Dibaba crossed the finish line second in 1:07.44 ahead of Kenya’s
Jemima Jelegat Sumgong (1:08.37).
Wilson Kipsang wins Great
North Run 2012
This year’s London Marathon champion and Olympic Bronze
medalist Wilson Kipsang emerged victorious in the 2012 Great North Run held in northeast
London on Sunday.
Kipsang clocked 59.06 to win the half marathon ahead of
compatriot and fierce rival Micah Kogo. Ethiopia’s Imana Merga came in third.
In the women’s race, Ethiopia’s jewel Tirunesh Dibaba debuted
with an emphatic win posting a time of 1:07.35. Kenya’s Edna Kiplagat and
Ethiopia’s Tiki Gelana came in second and third respectively.
