Nation Media Group Editorial Director Joseph Odindo is among
eight chief editors who were elected on Sunday to the Board of the World
Editors Forum, the organization within the World Association of Newspapers and
News Publishers (WAN-IFRA) for senior personnel.
Short Profile on Joseph
Odindo
In his capacity Odindo overseas all editorial operations of
Nation Media Group, which include 10 newspapers, 2 television stations, 3 radio
stations and numerous websites in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
He holds degrees from the University of Nairobi and
University of Wales as well as undertaking related education programs at the
Harvard Business School and Cambridge University.
The other chief editors elected at WEF’s Annual General
Meeting, on the eve of the World Newspaper
Congress and World Editors Forum in Kiev, Ukraine include-

Sanjay
Gupta, editor-in-chief of the Hindi language Dainik Jagram, he most read daily in India, and CEO of
its parent company, Jagran Prakashan. The paper’s 37 editions across 11 states
are read by some 55 million people daily.

Lisa MacLeod, Assistant Editor of
The Financial Times. She joined the newspaper in 2003 and has worked on the
company’s strategic newsroom integration and reorganization projects.

Markku Mantila, who has
been editor of Kaleva in the Finnish city of Oulu since 2009 and was a winner
of a Finnish Grand Prize for Journalism last year.

TN Ninan, Editorial
Director of the Business Standard Ltd in India, and currently President of the
Editors Guild of India. He has headed a number of Indian business publications,
bringing about substantial change and achieving rapid growth at all of them.

Wong Chun Wai, Executive Director
and Group Chief Editor of The Star, Malaysia’s leading English language daily.
He is also the current chairman of the Asia News Network, the largest Asian
umbrella group of more than 21 news media organization, and sits on the
country’s Anti Corruption Commission.

Kylie Davis, the
National Real Estate Editor at News Ltd. in Australia and one of the country’s
most highly regarded women in media. Ms Davis is a strong proponent of the
value of hyper local journalism. She has had a successful career at a variety
of Australian media companies.

Patrick Daniel, Editor-in-chief
of the English and Malay Newspaper Division of Singapore Press Holdings. He is
a director of SPH Magazines, SPH Union Works and Tamil Marasu Ltd, and also
chairs two SPH subsidiaries – Straits Times Press and Shareinvestor.com
Holdings. He is a graduate of University College, Oxford, and has a Masters
degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at
Harvard University.
