Kakamega High crowned EA Schools Rugby Champions



Kakamega High School thrashed defending champions Hanna Mixed of Uganda 32-0 to lift East Africa Secondary Schools Rugby Trophy at Prince Louis Gasore Stadium in Burundi’s capital Bujumbura on Saturday.
Mang’u High School, who lost to Hanna 13-12 in the semifinals, came back strong to beat Maseno School 10-3 in the bronze play-off.
In the boy’s volleyball, Cheptil High School beat Rwanda’s Indatwa in three straight sets in a final played at Lycee Saint Espirit grounds to retain the title.
In boy’s hockey, St. Anthony retained their title after beating compatriot Lenana School 1-0 while Friend School Kamusinga beat Uganda’s City High 3-0 to take silver.
In girl’s hockey, Kerugoya Girls thrashed City High 11-0 to defend their title.   
In the girls’ volleyball final, it was an all-Kenyan affair with Malava Girls High School beating archrivals Cheptil Hgh School 3-1.
In boys’ basketball, Kenya continued to bag gold with Laiser Hill beating Burundi’s Luk 79-37 in a thrilling final to retain the trophy they won in Uganda last year.
In the girls’ basketball, Shimba Hills lost by a point (56-57) to hosts Lycee SOS, taking silver back home.   
In girls’ handball, Kenya bagged bronze after New Jogoo Road School after defeating Burundi’s Rutovu 25-20 in the play-offs.  
In the girl’s football, national champions Tartar from West Pokot won Kenya’s last bronze.
