East African Community Permanent Secretary David S.O Nalo passed away on Wednesday night at the Nairobi Hospital after battle with cancer. The PS was admitted at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for over a week.
He
was the third senior government official to go public about ailment from cancer
after Medical Service Minister Anyang’ Ny’ongo and Public Health and Sanitation
Minister Beth Mugo.
Nalo
was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (an early stage of cancer) in February
this year and had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since then,
including chemotherapy.
A
visionary and dedicated public servant
He
previously served as PS in the Ministry of Trade and Industry as well as in the
Ministry of Planning and National Development.
He also served as the Director of the Kenya Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

He
held a Master of Arts degree in Economics from Concordia University in Canada.
He is survived by a widow and five children.
