Hosts Uganda Cranes defeated Kenya's Harambee Stars 2-1 to lift the 2012 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in a nail-biting final played on Saturday evening at the Nelson Mandela Stadium. The win was a repeat of history, where Stars lost to Cranes 1-0 in the 2008 final.
Uganda opened the score line with Robert Ssentongo's shot being deflected by Kenya's Anthony Kimani in the 28th minute. The first half ended 1-0 with Kenya at the receiving end.
Kenya returned in the second half with more focus on attack but cranes defense frustrated their advances. In the 86 minutes, Kenyan's hopes were revived when substitute Paul Were's pass was deflected by Edwin Lavatsa for the equaliser.
Celebrations by Kenyan fans were cut short 3 minutes later by a clean header from Geoffrey Baba Kizito that secured a 13th CECAFA title for Uganda.
Hongera! to Coach Nandwa and Stars for representing the nation.
