The last 8 of the remaining 16 Pilsner League of Kings Pool Challenge grand finalists were known as the Nairobi and Mombasa regional final came to a close.
With a further 8 having qualified from Western, Mountain and AFCO regions, Nairobi regions’ star studded line up made of up former and current national team members made up for nail biting duels for the final six.
In Nairobi, six players, four of them seasoned national team players out of a 36 team to the grand finale in a pulsating Pilsner League of Kings Pool Challenge semifinals.
John Kyalo beat John Wanyiri 4-3 in a best of seven to emerge tops in Nairobi region while Collins Tuwei took third after beating Dan Passo 4-2. Eric Mugisha and Salim Waweru settled for the last two slots.
Kyalo took home Kshs.50, 000 while Wanyiri and Tuwei settling for Kshs.30, 000 and 20,000 respectively.
The three, all who are former competitors of the last Pilsner competition, the Simba Wa Mfalme National Pool Challenge held 10 years ago, though had to call on their long pool experience to scrape it through.
Their celebrations will however be short lived as they meet 10 more qualifying from AFCO, Nairobi and Mombasa regions in a grand finale takes place in a fortnight on May 4th 2013.
Pilsner brand Manager remains optimistic the tournament is living up to its billing as the only pool platform helping grow talent in the country.
“We are proud of what the tournament has been able to achieve thus far in providing a pool platform for sport from the grassroots up to the national level. We have seen amazing talent across the country which will help compliment what we already have in the national team set up, “said Mworia.
Over 40,000 players had registered for the tournament in at least 840 venues played in six regions of the country Western; Coast, Central, Mountain, Eastern and AFCO.
The tournament seeks the top pool player in the country who will be rewarded with a two week trip to the World Eight ball Championship in UK starting June 23rd 2013 and cash bounty of Kshs.250,000.
