JUMIA Discusses
E-Commerce in Kenya at the Tech4africa Conference
Nairobi,

including JUMIAKenya hosted a panel under the topic Beyond the Code: From
innovation to Execution at the tech4africa conference held
at the Bishop Magua Centre along Ngong Road.
Those present for the panel discussion
included; Parinaz Firozi MD JUMIA Kenya, Peng Cheng MD Easy Taxi, Tom Putnam MD
Jovago, Eddy Barrow MD Hello food, and Dan Karua, Lamudi.
Speaking at the panelParinaz Firozi said, “JUMIA
is an innovator in new customer experiences, we have been very innovative by
changing the mentality of people from shopping in the malls to shopping online,
our innovative initiatives that includes delivery anywhere in Kenya, the option
of cash on delivery, payment options including mobile money transfer and credit
cards, great products at unbeatable prices and a free return policy of 7 days
have seen more and more Kenyans shopping online.”
Seconding Parinaz, Peng said that
innovation includes changing with the trends, “To be innovative, you need to
keep adjusting to the changing times and technology.”
The panellists also took questions from
participants focusing on the milestones and challenges they have faced in the
start-up of the various ventures in Kenya. They reiterated that for Kenya to
achieve its great vision, innovation must remain a priority and the driving
force for execution must be sustained.
The one day event, which aimed at imparting
technical knowledge, perspective and African inspiration, attracteda diverse
audience cutting across the tech ecosystem of developers, social media
marketers, technologists, corporates, students, investors and media. In the
smartCamp competition for the IBM Global Entrepreneurship program,Digital
Vision East Africa’s solution Chamasoft emerged top followed by Synacor
Consortium’s solution and Qubit’s solutionin third place.
The conference came to a close with the
Tech4Africa after party and networking event one of the most tweeted and joked
about sessions of the day.
