Seven Kenyan Finalists in the 2012 CNN Multichoice Africa Journalist of the Year Awards



The most prestigious journalism awards in the continent that is in its 17th year, announced its finalists yesterday. The competition received a record number of entries from 42 countries, in which 34 journalists from 12 countries across Africa in over 16 categories were shortlisted.
The seven Kenyans shortlisted include:
Nimrod Taabu Mwagamoyo (NTV)
Charles Kinyua Kariuki (NTV)
Waihiga Mwaura (Citizen TV)
Tom Mboya (Citizen TV)
Evanson Nyaga (Citizen TV)
Jephitha Mwai Mwangi (Citizen TV)
John Muchangi Njiru (The Star)
Phone-maker Nokia, Coca Cola Company, the African Development Bank (AfDB), IPP Media of Tanzania, Ecobank, UNICEF, Ericsson, A24 Media and Merck Sharp & Dohme (MSD) have joined to sponsor the awards.  Last year Fatuma Noor, an investigative journalist with The Star scooped the top award.
The winners will be announced at an evening gala ceremony in Lusaka, Zambia on Saturday 21 July, 2012.
