Windows Azure finally in Kenya

On Thursday, Microsoft officially launched Windows Azure Platform in the country. Microsoft Windows Azure Platform which was released in February 2010, is a cloud-computing platform used to build, host and scale web applications through Microsoft Data Centers.

The platform is built in a manner that downtimes are to be a thing of the past. This is as a result of there being numerous virtual machines strategically positioned worldwide that support the same services such that if one fails, another one immediately kicks in.

Simply the platform is a form of infrastructure cloud, where one can spin up virtual machines and load them with all they like. These virtual machines allow users to easily move their applications and infrastructure, whether on Windows or Linux to the cloud without making changes to their existing codes.

The virtual machines also allow the user to move their virtual hard disks (VHDs) back and forth between on-premises and the cloud.
