Public Lecture by Ford Foundation President @ UON
The University of Nairobi invites all to a public lecture by Ford Foundation President Luis A. Ubinas who will be reflecting on five decades of progress, opportunities and challenges in Eastern Africa.
Dubbed 'Fulfilling The Promise of Democracy in Kenya', the lecture will be held on Monday, 12 November 2012 at 2:00pm in Taifa Hall, University of Nairobi.
Sunday Live's Host Julie Gichuru will moderate the lecture.

Wangari Maathai Lecture slated for Saturday
“Anybody can
dig a hole and plant a tree. But make sure it survives. You have to nurture it,
you have to water it, you have to keep at it until it becomes rooted so it can
take care of itself. There are so many enemies of trees.” – Wangari Maathai
The inaugural lecture in honor of the late Kenyan Nobel
peace Laureate and founder of the Green Belt Movement, will be given by Chinese-British
writer Jung Chang at the Louis Leakey Auditorium on Saturday, September 15.
Chang is the author of Wild
Swans: Three Daughters of China (Described
by the Asian Wall Street Journal as the most read book about China), and Mao: The Unknown Story (with Jon
Halliday).
She has won the UK Writer’s Guild Best Non-Fiction in 1992
and Book of the Year UK in 1993. Her books have been translated into over 40
languages and sold more than 15 million copies worldwide.
The lecture runs from 3 to 4pm.
The late environmental and political activist who become the
first woman in Central and Eastern Africa to hold a Ph.D. besides being the
first African Woman to the Nobel Peace Prize, died last September of cancer.

Public Lecture on Rebooting Africa: Innovation for Development
There will be a public lecture on Rebooting African
innovation for development by Prof. Calestous Juma this coming Tuesday, 14 August
2012 at 2 PM at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).
Who is Prof. Calestous Juma?
He is a Kenyan Professor of the Practice of International
Development at the Harvard Kennedy School and Director of the Belfer Center’s
Science, Technology, and Globalization Project. He holds a Ph.D. in science and
technology policy studies and has written widely on science, technology, and
the environment.
Juma is also a former Executive Secretary of the United
Nations Convention on Biological Diversity and Founding Director of the African
Centre for Technology Studies. He was recently appointed to co-chair the new AU panel on science, technology, and innovation.

Invitation to Micere Mugo Public Lecture/ Book Launch
Prof. Micere Mugo is today having a public lecture at the University of
Nairobi hosted by its Department of Literature & African Women
Studies.
Micere will also be launching her book: ‘From the Heart of my Mind – The Story of our Journey’. It will start at 2pm in the MPH (8-4-4 building), University of Nairobi.
In attendance will be Hon. Martha Karua (Member of Parliament for Gichugu Constituency).
