Lupita, Sauti Sol Nominated for The MAMAs - Full List

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o and Kenyan Afro-pop band Sauti Sol have been nominated for the 2014 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) which will be held in South Africa on 7th June.

The actress is in the 'Personality of the Year' category while the band is slotted for the 'Best Group' category. Joining them will be Amani, a previous winner of the awards having being nominated in the 'Best Collaboration' category for her collaboration with Ugandan duo Radio and Weasel.

Samwel Kambi & Joseph Ole Lenku Join Uhuru's Cabinet

President Uhuru has today nominated Samwel Kazungu Kambi and Joseph Jama Ole Lenku to fill the two remaining slots to his cabinet.

Samwel Kazungu Kambi has been nominated as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Services while Utalii College principal Joseph Jama Ole Lenku as Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Interior & Coordination of National Government.

The two names have been forwarded to Parliament for approval.

    Profiles of Kenya's Cabinet Secretaries Nominees

    President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto have today unveiled twelve more cabinet secretaries nominees to bring the number to sixteen out of the eighteen who will make up the new cabinet.

    Here are the 16 Cabinet Secretaries Nominees

    Amb. Rachel Awuor Omamo, Ministry of Defence

    Studied Law at the University of Kent at Canterbury in the UK.
    Senior Counsel, has been an Advocate of the High Court of 27 years standing.

    She was the First Woman Chairperson of the Law Society of Kenya
    First woman Ambassador of Kenya to France, Portugal, The Holy See and the Republic of Serbia and Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Kenya to UNESCO.

    Rayechelle has made substantial contribution to the advancement of the rule of law in Kenya and to the development of legislation and policy, for example:

    Member of the Task Force on the Establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission for Kenya;

    Member of the Task Force on the Review of Landlord and Tenant Legislation;
    Assisting Counsel to the Ndungu Commission:

    She was the Jurist of the Year 2002.

    Adan Mohammed - Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development

    Born December 1963 in Mandera.

    Adan has worked for Barclays Bank for over 15 years in different parts of the world.  He has been the CEO of Barclays Kenya for a period of 10 years that has seen the Bank grow from strength to strength.  In recognition of his contribution, Barclays Group recently promoted him to the role of Chief Administrative Officer with responsibilities for 10 countries in Africa.

    Prior to Barclays, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers for a period of 7 years in London where he trained as a Chartered Accountant.

    Renown Kenyan actor, Melvin Alusa has been nominated for an international Emmy Award.

    The versatile actor who is a regular on both TV and film, starred in 'The Rugged Priest' and 'The First Grader', where he acted alongside English actress Naomi Harris.

    Kakenya Ntaiya Nominated for 2013 CNN Heroes

    A Kenyan educator and activist, Kakenya Ntaiya has been nominated as one of the 2013 CNN Heroes. The founder and president of Kakenya Center for Excellence was recognized for her efforts in educating the girl-child.

    Established in 2009 in Enoosaen, Trans Mara District, the boarding primary school had 32 students now boasts of 155 students. Girls most of who would otherwise have been married of early, now get an opportunity in academics, leadership and female empowerment, along with cultural preservation and life skills.

    Kenyans Among 2013 African Movie Academy Awards Nominees

    Nominees for the 2013 African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) were announced on Friday night at a ceremony hosted by President Joyce Banda in Lilongwe, Malawi.

    AMAA which is the the continent's most prestigious awards for filmmakers received 328 entries from across Africa, up from 220 in 2011. These included 134 feature films, 88 short films, 57 documentaries and 6 animations.

    Wyre Nominated for International Reggae & World Music Awards


    Reggae and Dance Hall artiste Kevin Waire better known by his stage name 'Wyre Da Love Child' has been nominated for the International Reggae and Music Awards set to take place on May 4th 2013.

    In the Best New Entertainer category the award-winning artiste will face Jamaica's dancehall artistes Chronixx and D Major. 

    The event will be held at the Coral Springs Centre For The Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
