Kenyans Are Among Global Mobile Payments Leaders
Yesterday MasterCard Worldwide through its survey unveiled
its Mobile Payments Readiness Index (MPRI), an analysis of 34 countries and
their readiness to make use of 3 types of mobile payments: mobile web commerce (m-commerce),
person to person (P2P) and mobile contactless payments at the point of sale (POS).
The MPRI held that Kenya was among the top 5 countries in
the world that are ready to adapt mobile payments technology.Other countries
identified by the MPRI as most prepared markets were Canada, Singapore, United States,
and South Korea.
“Kenyan consumers’
very high levels of familiarity with and frequent usage of mobile payments make
this nation the top scorer on the survey’s Consumer Readiness component,” said
Charlton Goredema, Vice President: Market Manager, MasterCard Worldwide, East
Africa and Indian Ocean Islands.
