The fifth Lake Turkana Festival that takes place in Loiyangalani
ended yesterday after three days of dance, music and art. The cultural festival,
which is meant to celebrate and unite the tribes affiliated to the lake, was
started in 2008 by the National Museums of Kenya. The Desert Museum in
Loiyangalani is the First-of-its-kind.
The event is sponsored by the National Museums of Kenya, the
German Embassy, Private Safaris (K) Ltd, Kenya Tourist Board and Magical Kenya.
The event features performances from 10 ethnic communities, which live in the
Lake Turkana region: El Molo, Turkana, Rendille, Samburu, Borana, Konso, Dassanach,
Gabra, Wata and Burji.
