Prof Frederick N. Onyango EBS, MBS
Born in 1943 in Migori County, he’s
remembered for his time as the Vice Chancellor of Maseno University.
From 1963-67, he attended the University of Uppsala in
Sweden for his Bachelor of Science (Fil.Kand) and later aM.Sc (Physics) at the
same institution.
In 1974, he earned his Ph.D (Solid State Physics) from the
University of London in the United Kingdom. He also held numerous
certifications in University management. In his professional life, he has lectured
in the University of Nairobi as well as the University of Dar es salaam.
He also served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Jomo
Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) and Editor-in-chief
of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences.
In 1981, he became the first Kenyan Physicist/Scientist to
be elected an Associate of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics
(ICTP). Trieste, Italy by the Centre’s Scientific Council.
In 1993, he was honoured with the Silver Star of Kenya (SS)
by former president Moi and he was an EBS.
He also published many scientific research papers, in
particular those in the field of New and Renewable sources of energy.
He died on Friday at the Nairobi Hospital.
He did his best and offered his service to the world. R.I.P Prof.
