The Kenya Rugby Union chair Mwangi Muthee unveiled the 2012 Safaricom 7’s that will take place from 21st to 23rd September
at the Nyayo National Stadium on Monday.
Speaking at the RFUEA grounds Muthee rekindled the quest of
having the Safaricom 7’s listed on the HSBC World Seven Series. In its 17th
successive year, the tournament has continued to display terrific growth and
he believes it is high time we hosted the world circuit in Nairobi.
“Our ultimate goal is to get admission into the IRB series
while at the same time ensuring that our fans have a great experience,” he said.
Safaricom’s corporate affairs Director Nzioka Waita also supported
the move saying that it would boost Kenya’s tourism earnings and called on the
government to put weight on the incorporation of the tournament into the IRB
circuit.
The Kenya Rugby Sevens team will be chosen immediately after
the tournament.
