On Tuesday, Harambee Stars head coach Francis Kimanzi was
sacked and the technical bench band disbanded by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).
This comes after the disappointing performance of the national team that has
also led football veterans call for an overhaul of the entire team and its
technical bench.
Stars hopes to qualify for the 2013 African Cup of Nations
were dashed by the 1 – 0 defeat by Togo’s Hawks. Despite Kimanzi’s dismissal,
he has been appointed to the position of FKF technical director as the country
searches for a new coach.
However, the FKF Vice chairman Sammy Sholei has hinted out
that Kenya may now embrace a foreign coach, as local coaches have not spurred
the team to success.
In other sport news, NOCK chairman Dr. Kipchoge Keino will be awarded the Freedom of Bristol City. Stephen Arap Soi, the Kenyan Olympics Team leader broke the news on Tuesday. He will be bestowed the honour on July 5th in the United Kingdom.
Keino will hence become the second recipient of the honour after
the former British Prime Minister, the late Sir Winston Churchill.
