Nairobi’s City Council budget 2012/2013



On Thursday, the Nairobi’s City council unveiled its 15.5 billion shillings budget for the year 2012/2013 at City hall. With Sh4.4 billion of the 15.5 billion being drawn from the Central government’s consolidated fund.
The council’s finance committee chair Michael Okumu said that Sh139.3 million would go to the expansion of education facilities within the city.
Other allocations included:
Sh1 billion will go to improvement of road and council premises.
Sh168 million has been set aside for street lighting programme.
Sh75 million will be directed towards the completion of projects in the management and planning of the city.
Sh68.2 million will go to rehabilitation and expansion of 6 health centers, crematoriums and acquisition of ambulances.
The council has planned to raise its revenue mainly from land rates of Sh2.8 billion, business permits of Sh0.9 billion and parking fees to a tune of Sh1.4 billion.
