Kenya’s hopes of winning a swimming medal in the ongoing
London Olympics were dashed when Jason Dunford failed to qualify for the 100m
butterfly finals on Thursday night.
Commonwealth champion Jason finished 8th in heat
2, clocking a time of 52.16 seconds for him to be ranked 12th out of
the 16 semifinalists.
The competitive semis entertained the greatest Olympian of
all-time Michael Phelps of US, and South African gold medalist Chad Le Clos who
won heat 2 in a time of 51.42 seconds.
In heat 1, record setting Michael Phelps won in a time of
50.86 seconds to open his path of 20 Olympics medals, a new Olympics record.
Hopes now turn to the opening day of track and field action
where double champion Vivian Cheruiyot takes the track for the 10,000m on
Friday evening.
